Reggie Ragland on Kansas City Chiefs defense: “We’ll be fine”

The good: the Kansas City Chiefs are 4-0.

The bad: the defense has looked to be a weakness in the process. Chiefs inside linebacker Reggie Ragland addressed the problems on defense Friday afternoon in the locker room.

Here is a video of Ragland’s comments courtesy of friend of the site Tom Martin (KCTV5):

“We don’t care if nobody thinks we’re good or not. We got each other in here. Forget everybody else … Everybody got to run to the ball, everybody get around each other. We’ll be fine. Like I said, the season ain’t over yet. Everybody been complaining about the first four games. Them games over with … All of that other chitter chatter stuff—nobody cares about that, for real, in this locker room. That’s for everybody else on the outside—they care about that. The only thing we care about is winning, we’re playing good. Well, all of us (as a team) are playing good, we have to play better on the defensive side.”

I think this is the right approach by Ragland, who has become a defensive leader this season after the team moved on from Derrick Johnson this offseason.

Our defensive film analyst, Craig Stout, laid it out perfectly in this week’s review: “OK, so that’s supremely excessive for the worst defense in the league in yards, yards per rush and first downs per game. It also ranks near the bottom in passing yards per game, yards per play and basically anything that isn’t third-down percentage (1st in the league) or sacks (12th in the league).”

The defensive play can only go up from here. The Chiefs host the Jaguars at Arrowhead Stadium this Sunday at Noon Arrowhead Time.
