The Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos have revealed their inactives for today’s game, and as expected the Chiefs will be without center Mitch Morse (concussion), safety Eric Berry (heel) and outside linebacker Justin Houston (hamstring). Morse was declared out of this week’s game on Friday while Berry and Houston were declared doubtful.
Among those not suiting up for Denver will be running back Royce Freeman (ankle), wide receiver DaeSean Hamilton (knee), offensive lineman Jared Veldheer (knee), and safety Darian Stewart (neck). Each of those players were declared out of today’s game on Friday.
Filling in at center for the Chiefs will be Austin Reiter, who will be making his first start since coming to Kansas City in September the second of his NFL career. Reiter also started a game with the Cleveland Browns back in 2016, a game in which he suffered a season-ending torn ACL. Houston will be missing his third consecutive game since sustaining his injury against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5 (rookie Breeland Speaks has been starting in his place), while Berry has been out since August due to lingering issues with his Achilles. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid talked Friday about what the staff is looking for from Berry before letting him return to practice.
“The docs and Rick (Vice President of Sports Medicine and Performance Rick Burkholder) are working with him on it,” Reid said. “I’m not working with him, but just where he’s comfortable driving and running. That’s really what it comes down to.”
Replacing Freeman in the starting lineup at running back for Denver will likely be rookie Phillip Lindsay; both backs had success running the ball against the Chiefs in Week 4 with Freeman rushing for 67 carries on eight yards and Lindsay rushing for 69 yards on 12 carries. Billy Turner will be in the starting lineup at right tackle for Veldheer, while Will Parks will start at safety in place of Stewart.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos are meeting today for the 118th time in series history, with the Chiefs holding a 62-55 overall record and a six-game winning streak. Kansas City won the last meeting, a 27-23 come-from-behind win in Denver on October 1 when Patrick Mahomes engineered two touchdown drives in the fourth quarter to rally from a 23-13 hole. Today marks the third time Mahomes has faced the Broncos in his nine NFL starts, with the first coming last season — a 27-24 win in Denver in Week 17. Mahomes and the Chiefs entered the day at 6-1 and in first place in the AFC West, while Denver came in at 3-4 and in third place in the AFC West. Both teams are coming off 45-10 victories, with the Chiefs winning over the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday night and the Broncos winning at Arizona against the Cardinals on Thursday, October 18.
