Kansas City Chiefs playoff picture and scenarios for Week 17

Even with the 38-31 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night, the Kansas City Chiefs still have a very good chance to go into the postseason as the number one seed and play all of their games in Arrowhead Stadium.

When you stop to think about it, the Chiefs are in a pretty unique position. It’s not really… normal for a team to lose their Week 15 and Week 16 games and still control their own destiny for the number one seed in the playoffs — but nonetheless, here we are.

So with one week remaining, here’s where the Chiefs stand.

The Chiefs have a 76 percent chance to win the one seed, a 5 percent chance to win the two seed — therefore an 81 percent chance for a first-round bye — a 5 percent chance to win the three seed, and a 13 percent chance to win the five seed.

Specifically…

The Chiefs will have the ONE seed IF

  • The Chiefs defeat (or tie) the Oakland Raiders OR
  • The Jaguars, Jets and Broncos all win (or tie) against the Texans, Patriots and Chargers

The Chiefs will have the FIVE seed IF

  • The Chiefs lose or tie, and the Chargers win or tie.

The Chiefs will have the TWO seed IF

  • The Chiefs lose, the Broncos and Patriots win and the Jaguars win or tie OR
  • The Chiefs lose, the Broncos and Texans win, and the Jets win or tie OR
  • The Chiefs lose, the Texans, Patriots and Broncos win and ALL of the following happens: Giants beat (or tie) Cowboys, Ravens beat (or tie) Browns, 49ers beat (or tie) Rams, Cardinals beat (or tie) Seahawks, and Eagles beat (or tie) Redskins

The Chiefs will have the THREE seed IF

  • The Chiefs lose, the Texans, Patriots and Broncos win AND any ONE of the following teams win: Cowboys, Browns, Rams, Seahawks or Redskins.
