The Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots brought two of the NFL’s most potent offenses into their matchup in Foxborough, Massachusetts Sunday night, and they didn’t disappoint, putting up over 940 yards of offense on route to a 43-40 New England win.
The Patriots jumped out to a 24-9 lead at the half, but the Chiefs rode quarterback Patrick Mahomes and their potent offense to a second-half comeback that saw them take a 40-40 tie into the final minutes. But it was one of those games where whoever had the ball last was going to win, and in this case it was New England, who took the victory on a last-second field goal by Stephen Gostkowski.
Mahomes had a rocky start to the game, throwing two interceptions in the first half, but rebounded nicely to finish with 352 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions on 23-of-36 passing. Tom Brady finished his night 24-of-35 with 340 yards, one passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown for New England.
Other top performers in the game included running back Kareem Hunt (10 carries, 80 yards; five catches, 105 yards, one touchdown) and wide receiver Tyreek Hill (seven catches, 142 yards, three touchdowns) for Kansas City and running back Sony Michel (24 carries, 106 yards, two touchdowns) for New England.
Here’s a recap of the highlights from the game.
