
A fatal crash involving a Kansas City police vehicle shut down northbound Interstate 435 near Arrowhead Stadium, backing up traffic for miles a couple hours before Sunday night’s Chiefs game.
Just before 5 p.m., northbound I-435 has backed up beyond 63rd Street, more than three miles. All traffic was being forced to exit at Eastwood Trafficway.
The KC Scout traffic system reported the crash at 4:08 p.m. on I-435 just before Stadium Drive. One person has been reported dead, according to Kansas City police. It was not immediately known if there were other injuries. Several vehicles were involved.
A Kansas City police vehicle was involved, police said, but no other details were available.
At 5:50 p.m. KC Scout had not yet been able to estimate when the highway might reopen.
The Chiefs are playing the Cincinnati Bengals with the kickoff at 7:20 p.m.
