The Senior Bowl is one of the earliest opportunities for Chiefs’ scouts, coaches, and general manager Brett Veach to meet with some of the top draft prospects. It’s unclear if any coaches or Veach have made their way down to Mobile, Alabama. However, Chiefs scouts are out in force checking out practice and meeting with prospects.
The Chiefs have a long history of selecting standout players from the Senior Bowl. Players currently on the roster like Dee Ford, Eric Fisher, Kareem Hunt, Tanoh Kpassagnon, and Darrel Williams all elevated their profile through the week of practice and the game. It truly serves as a springboard, specifically for players from small schools to get their name out there, but also their practice tape out there for scouts to observe.
Most teams will have a chance to interact with every player throughout the pre-draft process. Some teams will pay more attention to players their most interested in, while others won’t pay them much time at all. If anything meetings with prospects can give you an idea of the positions that the Chiefs are spending time on ahead of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Some observations from this list:
- The only offensive players the Chiefs are meeting with are receivers. Chris Conley, De’Anthony Thomas, and Marcus Kemp (ERFA) are scheduled to be free agents in 2019.
- The Chiefs have met with a healthy dose of defenders. They’ve surprisingly met with three interior defensive linemen, that might indicate concerns about signing Chris Jones to a long term deal or re-signing free agents to be Allen Bailey and Xavier Williams.
- There are a few connections to the Chiefs franchise on this list. Delaware is the alma mater of Brett Veach, that’s where safety Nasir Adderley goes to school. Tyre Brady was reserve quarterback Chase Litton’s top receiving target at Marshall. It’s possible he caught their eye when studying Litton or vice versa.
We’ll keep you updated with more meetings as we learn about them.
